Pierre, S.D. – Witness
thrilling rodeo action at the Last Chance Bonanza Rodeo, Oct.
21-23 at the Swiftel Center in Brookings. The rodeo is one of
the last chances for contestants to earn points for December’s
Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las
Vegas. This makes for an exciting
event, as some of the world’s best cowboys and cowgirls fight
their way to the top.
“Last year this event drew nearly 4,500 spectators
from across the region with 12 national final rodeo
qualifiers competing,” said Jenny Hamrich, sales and
marketing manager for the Swiftel Center.
“This year we expect 300 of the top rodeo athletes from
the United States and
around the world to compete here.”
The rodeo begins each evening at 7:30 p.m. with an
action-packed lineup featuring events such as bull,
bareback and saddle-bronc riding, tie-down roping, steer
wrestling, barrel racing and team and steer roping.
Keith Isley, the 1999 and 2000 PRCA Specialty Act of the
Year, and world champion bull fighters Mike Matt and
Loyd Ketchum will provide entertainment.
Tickets are available at the Swiftel Center,
charging by phone at (605) 692-1992, any Ticketmaster
outlet or online at
www.swiftelcenter.com.
The Last Chance Bonanza Rodeo has been designated a
“Great Event” by the South Dakota Office of Tourism.
With that designation, the office provides assistance to
event coordinators and creates and funds promotion for
the event. For 2004, events that take place during the
shoulder travel season are part of the campaign. The
objective of the “Great Shoulder Events” campaign is to
boost attendance at South Dakota events
during the off-peak travel season and to increase
economic impact in host communities. The Great Should
Events campaign is one component of the 2010 Initiative,
which includes doubling visitor spending to $1.2 billion
by 2010.
